The founder and the artistic leader of the Ensemble.

His musical education he acquired at the Prague Conservatory and at the Academy of Musical Arts in Prague. Together with his friend and schoolmate Jiří Lisý they founded the Prague Brass Ensemble already during their studies and thus thy continued the tradition of their fathers (Josef Votava – the Bass Trombone player of the National Theatre Orchestra, Jaroslav Lisý – the Solotrombone player of the Czech Philharmonic), who both played in the Prague Brass Quintet.

Jan Votava became the Laureate of the 1982 Prague Spring International Competition. He is the Solotrombone player and at the same time the manager of the National Theatre Orchestra in Prague.
